This is the story of Australian Yacht EDNBAL sailing and admiring the Marvels of the World. The cruising life style gave the Authors a great opportunity to meet many and get to know people of the World belonging to various societies and coming from all walks of life. The Authors were eager to learn about countries travelled, learn about humans’ history in various parts of the world, and they often experienced the nature and wilderness surrounding the vast expense of Oceans. The cruising adventures described in this book are collected from the stories told by a number of cruisers, they include the best and the worst experiences in cruising seen, heard of, listened to, and definitively savoured by the Authors in the last ten years. The famous World traveller Marco Polo described his extensive travels in a similar exact, accurate but somewhat unbelievable description in his “Marvels of the World”. Ednbal’s Marvels of the World is indeed a TRUE Cruiser Story and will hopefully gain respect and appreciation easier than Marco’s! “Wishing in my secret thoughts that the things I had seen and heard should be made public for the benefit of those who could not see them with their own eyes.” Marco Polo

The authors of this book, Sasha Barac and Roger Boxall, hail from Western Australia. They are members of the large international floating population of long distance cruisers who undertake long journeys in sailing yachts. A yacht in hr 10-15 metre range, like their Ednbal is a seaworthy vessel and modern electronic and communication systems have greatly improved safety at sea. For the most part these cruisers frequent the warmer seas - the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the South Pacific, avoiding areas like the Indian Ocean, East Indies and West Africa where piracy is always a danger. In popular ports in the safe areas large numbers of these sea gypsies congregate for special events. Of course few of these cruisers spend 100% of their time afloat - Most have a house ashore which has to be returned to from time to time and children or grandchildren who join the boat for the holidays. There must also be an income in the background to pay for trips ashore, repairs, spare parts, insurance and so on.That is the world that Sasha and Roger have described in Cruisers Exposed. The book is, in a way, a logbook and recounts Ednbal's journeys from 2007 to 2015, but it is not arranged in chronological order. Rather it is an account of their friendship with other yacht dwellers with whom they cruise for a while and pursue adventures and travels ashore. They part for some months or years and then they meet again, so the chapters in the book are named for the boats of their friends and relate the cruises they have taken in company. There are thirteen of these sections. They also include recipes for meals and for cocktails - it is clear they live well, especially in secure anchorages socializing with other sailors. The maps attached to each section show the immense distances Ednbal travelled and is still travelling. She is now in French Polynesia.
Anyone who dips into it would enjoy this book but the greatest benefit would be to anyone contemplating extended cruising. One good piece of advice: if you are prone to seasickness, this life is not for you.
